The stars burned out. Planets froze. Our galaxy went dark.
Tero, light years behind us, is dead.
We sleep as our convoy of starships flee outward toward uncertain salvation.
“Admiral!” I call. “Stasis interruption!”
“Chief…” he yawns.
I tap the screen. “Look.”
“A ship? This far from the galactic center? Scans?”
“Millienia old… unknown markings… and…”
“Chief?”
“A functioning fusion device inside those doors.”
“Suit up then!”
“Admiral?”
“They wanted us to find that thing. It’s near that dead star. We’re out of options.”
“What should I do?”
“There a button on it, Chief?”
“…Yes.”
“Then you’ll think of something.”
